Business and Professional Development

The KCG business and professional development practice led by Emma Kowalenko offers experiential learning, coaching, and mentoring for groups and one-on-one sessions, customized to fit the needs and budget of small, medium, and large businesses, public sector agencies, nonprofit organizations, and individuals transitioning from military service or public sector to private sector careers. The focus is on bringing resources and strategies to small businesses, entrepreneurs, and individuals wishing to enter the public sector marketplace.

KCG founded in 1988, has been certified as a small business with City of Chicago (WBE-COC), Illinois Universal Certification Program (DBE-IUCP), Central Management Services (FBE-CMS), the Small Business Administration (SBA) 8(a) Small Disadvantaged Business (SDB) program (8(a)). Currently KCG is in a SBA approved Mentor Protégé relationship with Civil and Environmental Consultants (CEC).

Emma Kowalenko has more than 25 years of experience in running a small business, managing projects, business and RFP development, networking and team building, workshop design and facilitation, group and individual training, and technical writing and editing. Related project experience includes change management, team building, and organizational retreat design and facilitation.

In establishing this practice Ms. Kowalenko shares lessons learned as an entrepreneur, small business owner since 1988 and focuses on strategies for success for entrepreneurs and individuals entering the public sector marketplace. The experiential, fast-paced, workshops incorporate a proprietary coaching technique that emphasizes life experience and interaction. All participants come away from the one, two, or three-day workshops with products in hand. These comprise business, marketing, and sales plans, career plans and résumés, small business certifications, teaming and partnership strategies for pursuing set aside opportunities, effective networking and matchmaking approaches, mentor protégé and joint venture agreements, RFP responses, diversity awareness programs including foreign language and cultural immersions, organizational communication plans, internal mentoring programs, creativity and innovation models, and business continuity plans for emergency preparedness.

In addition to the one, two, and three day workshops, customized sessions are available to fit schedule and budget. A needs assessment is conducted for all clients at no cost before presenting recommendations and options.
